Happy Weekend Shakters!

Yay! It is a long weekend. Happy Labor Day Weekend! We are celebrating and honoring all the great workers in the world. Thank you for all that you have done.

Have it ever occurred to you to decide to take a little break and escape at the spur of the moment somewhere outside of town or outside of your city? I bet if you have already done it, you most likely loved the experience. It always turns out to be exciting and fun.

In May, when my high school friend came to visit me after not seeing each other for over three years, we decided, the girls and I, to go altogether for a little girls’ getaway in Duluth.

Duluth is a nice yet laid back port city on Lake Superior in Minnesota. It is situated northeast of Minnesota near the borders with Wisconsin. It is roughly two to three hours drive from the Twin Cities, and it is a good place to go to for a last minute escapade. Whether you want to have some away time with your girls or some romantic getaway with your lover, it is the perfect go-to place in the state.

Where to stay? There is a wide range of 3-stars and 4-stars hotels near the Lake, in Downtown Duluth if you want to stay near the waterfront and have one of the nicest view of the city and Lake area. There is also other options such as airbnb all over town and other affordable options as well such as nice motels.

We stayed at the Radisson Hotel Duluth – Harborview, and it met our expectations. The hotel provides a scenic view of the Harbor, an indoor pool, sauna and spa tub, a nice restaurant and clean and nice rooms.

What to do while in the city? You definitely need to go walk around the waterfront trail that passes along Canal Park and see the 1905 Aerial Lift Bridge. And, you can plan a day at the Great Lakes Aquarium whether it’s in family or with friends to see salt- and freshwater animals.

For the vintage lover, you could go visit Lake Superior Railroad Museum, which housed in a former train depot, features vintage locomotives. Also, Glensheen is a 20,000 square foot 1908 mansion on a vast lakeside estate, operated today as a historic house museum by the University of Minnesota Duluth.

The girls and I, spent time at Canal Park. We walked along the waterfront trail, sightseeing the Lake, the port and the bridges. We laughed a lot and ended up eating at a restaurant “Lyric Kitchen Bar” in downtown, where we had a lovely time as well. At night, we went swimming and relaxed in the spa tub. We had fun, spent good moments and created great memories.

Don’t forget to grab some good food at the wide range of restaurants the city offers. If you want to have more information about things to do in Duluth and ongoing events within the city, click here to get additional information on the travel guide.
